Social Studies Losing Out to Reading, Math

Even though NCLB considers history a core subject, states around the country are cutting back on social studies instruction to devote more time to math and reading. The National Council for the Social Studies and others are taking a closer look at the imbalance and preparing recommendations on how to strengthen students' social studies knowledge.
